SWA Inspection Backfill Notice
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
First and Foremost, we would like to thank all of the affected members involved in this process for
your patience and understanding during the arduous task of remedy calculation following AMFA’s
historic victory in the Inspector Backfill Arbitration.
As the remedy calculation process proceeded, both the Company and AMFA agreed that the process
of daily determination would not only have taken an extended period of time to complete, but it
became apparent that differences in the calculation methodology may have taken us back to the
Arbitrator for final resolution. In addition, available records were both incomplete and archaic.
Therefore, in the interest of timely payment to our affected members and to avoid a protracted
dispute over remedy calculation, we were able to secure a sizable monetary settlement with the
Company, which will be distributed via Company payroll to our affected members, and will be treated
as taxable wages and income earned in 2014 subject to the profit sharing and 401(K) provisions
contained in our CBA.
AMFA, in consultation with legal, has decided to present two separate distribution methods for your
consideration. All affected members will be given the opportunity to vote on which method they
prefer, and the option that receives a majority of votes cast will become the final method of
distribution.
Attached to this correspondence you will find a list of all eligible Inspectors and Alternate Inspectors
that AMFA has compiled and determined are to be included in the distribution of the Inspection
Backfill Award. Alternate Inspectors staffed in stations with General Inspectors were the only
Alternates included on the distribution list given the applicability of the backfill requirements
contained in Article 10. In addition, all affected preaquisition AirTran Inspectors were credited for
time on the list commencing on September 27, 2012 – the date the National Mediation Board
determined Southwest and AirTran were operating as a single transportation system.
Copies of the attached list will also be posted and available for review on each Local’s website. Any
questions, comments or challenges related to this list of eligible Inspectors and Alternate Inspectors
must be sent to your Area Representative, in writing, no later than thirty (30) days from the date of this
letter. Following conclusion of the thirty (30) day period, a ballot will be mailed to each of you at your
home addresses (on file with AMFA National), with the two distribution methods presented for your
voting consideration.
