Memo to Local 32 SWA Members
Feb 17, 2017

Local 32 SWA Members:

As you know, we are currently in collective bargaining with Southwest Airlines pursuant to the Railway Labor Act Section 6.  During this process, we are to maintain the Status Quo, and are not to initiate any “self-help”.  Federal Courts have broadly defined “self-help” to include any job action designed to inflict economic pressure on the carrier, and this is to include any overtime boycotts.

I’m sure you have become aware of the lawsuit Southwest Airlines has filed against Amfa National and several of its members, to include your Amfa Negotiating Committee.  This lawsuit was filed on February 15, 2017 and it alleges that the AMT’s at Southwest Airlines orchestrated a “Job Action” by starting a collective effort to boycott overtime. The lawsuit also makes claims that Amfa and the other defendants did not make every reasonable effort to prevent the boycott.

As you may remember, a letter was sent out from our National Director dated February 12, 2017 informing the members of their obligation to maintain the status quo.  Knowing this, any “Boycott” cannot be organized, sanctioned, or condoned and is contrary to the best interest of our Association.

If you have any questions regarding this or any other issues, please contact your Local Officers.

On Behalf of the Local 32 LEC,

Frank Amore

President, Local 32
